Why use harsh chemicals on an appliance you are going to be drinking out of?
Use straight vinegar in the basket, just leave the basket in the coffeemaker with the lid open. Let the basket soak overnight or during the day while you are at work and rinse thoroughly.
Once every 2-3 weeks you can also mix 1 part vinegar to 2 parts cold water and add it to the coffeemaker and brew as you would normally allowing the heated vinegar/water solution to remove hard water stains, mineral deposits etc. and then flush with two pots of fresh water only in the same manner.
Really, this method works just as well (and is much better for your health) than using something like Lime Away to clean your coffeemaker.
